Man, this would just be the perfect solution:) If the disc copier software could do the conversion it would be even better! Edit: Damian has actuall done this on MT2S files as well. It would be nice to not need 2 different copies of the same movie. No AC3 Filter for MKV files - SageTV Community.

If this could somehow be implemented so that when transcoding to the extenders it would use the AC3 track when playing directly from the HTPC it would use the HD audio track, it would be ideal for people using both. a splitter filter that makes mp4 / mkv / ogg / ogm / ts / m2t / m2ts files available in DirectShow. He uses SageTV and the extenders have a button to switch audio tracks so he can just switch to the AC3. First question, will this be able to trancsode VC1 MKV's from blurays to extenders, as people have discussed above? This brings me to another thought, Damian over and (dbone on AVS) converts his blurays to MKVs with 2 different audio tracks, HD audio for the HTPC and AC3 I think for the extenders.
I was happy to see this thread as I did no know there were plans for transcoding MKV's.
